    "Shaping a Sustainable Digital Future" was the second edition of Prada Group’s "Shaping a Future" conversations.

    This year’s conference explored the relationship between sustainability and digital innovation. Our guest speakers examined how technology contributes to the sustainable development of business and society, and reflected on the pressing risks posed by technology’s onward march.

    Nicholas Negroponte, Chairman Emeritus, MIT Media Lab delivered a powerful keynote speech, covering the fascinating interplay of capitalism, entrepreneurship, democracy, education, culture, ‘groupthink’ and new ways of thinking about technology.

    Alessandro Brun

    Alessandro Brun

    Alessandro Brun holds a Master Degree and a PhD in Management Engineering, both earned at Politecnico di Milano. He is Associate Professor at Politecnico di Milano, and presently is Director of Executive training in Six Sigma and Director of the Master in Global Luxury Goods and Services Management at MIP Graduate School of Business. His main research streams are related to Quality Management and Luxury Management.
    Along with teaching and research duties, he is actively participating in a set of other activities. He is member of the organizing committee of several international conferences, including the International Workshop on Luxury Retail, Operations and Supply Chain Management, which he launched 7 years ago, referee for International Journals in the fields of Operations and Quality Management, founder of the “Circolo Six Sigma”, a cultural initiative involving companies embracing the Six Sigma improvement programme. 
    Lately, he established the Sustainable Luxury Academy, a long-term program involving luxury companies and institutions with the common aim of making luxury a more sustainable business.

    Raffaella Cagliano

    Raffaella is Full Professor at Politecnico di Milano School of Management, where she teaches Leadership and Innovation, Business Management and Organization, Survey Methodology and Organization & Management and Organization Theory and Design. 
    She is also part of the Core Faculty of the School of Management, is Deputy Director of the Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering, and sits on the Executive Board of the university’s Graduate School of Business.
    Raffaella is an acclaimed expert on Operations Management and Sustainability. Her main research interests concern Manufacturing and Supply Chain Strategies, with a particular emphasis on the organizational paradigms, models and practices in developing sustainable Operations.
    Raffaella is the author of several books and over 30 articles published in international journals. She has organized a number of major international conferences and workshops, and has been a member of the “Organizing for Sustainable Effectiveness” network since 2010. 
    Raffaella holds a Master of Science and a PhD in Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering from Politecnico di Milano. 

    Roberta Cocco

    Roberta has graduated in Foreign languages and Literature at the University of Milan, and has completed her education with a Master in Marketing, Communication and Public Relations.
    She has had a long career at Microsoft, where she moved through a series of increasingly strategic roles – as Central Marketing Director – until she reached the role of Director Corporate Social Responsibility and National Development, promoting innovation projects for the development and implementation of the Digital Agenda with Governments and Institutions in the area. In 2014 she enlarged her responsibilities to become Director of National Plan Development for Western Europe, covering 12 Countries. 
    Since 2004, with Futuro@lFemminile, she has been involved in projects to bridge the gender gap through ICT in close collaboration with international organizations including United Nation Women, UNESCO, ITU, UNRIC. 
    In 2013 she launched Nuvola Rosa: a project dedicated to the technical-scientific training of girls which in turn inspired in 2016 #MakeWhatsNext, an initiative adopted by 27 European nations, reaching over 10,000 girls.
    Since February 2006 she has been Professor in charge of the “Brand Management and Communication” course at the Degree in Marketing at the LIUC University of Castellanza. In 2010 she was awarded the honor of Commendatore dell’Ordine al Merito of the Italian Republic by the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano. In 2016 she joined the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala as Deputy Mayor for Digital Transformation and Citizens Services at the Municipality of Milan.

    Rachel is Chief Executive Officer of Doteveryone, a UK think tank working to make the Internet, and digital society, a fairer place. Rachel has spent the last 20 years turning emerging technology into products and services, and helped many organizations adapt to the digital world. She has created and delivered large-scale content-driven services for Microsoft, BBC and Channel 4, and was a pioneer in the UK digital arts sector. 
    Rachel has consulted for many FTSE companies across a range of sectors including finance, energy and healthcare. She is also a trustee of the Fawcett Society. She regularly writes and speaks about how technology is changing society, and creates provocations and policy recommendations to make sure technology changes the world with people in mind.

    Ravi Dhar

    Ravi Dhar is an expert in consumer behaviour and branding, marketing management and marketing strategy and a leader in bringing psychological insights to the study of consumer decision-making. His research focuses on understanding consumer motivation to pursue their goals in various situations as well managing the simultaneous pursuit of multiple goals. Ravi’s work has been mentioned in Business Week, the New York Times, the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Economist, USA Today, and other popular media.
    He has been a visiting professor at HEC Graduate School of Management in Paris, at Erasmus University in the Netherlands, and at the Business Schools at Stanford and New York University. Ravi has published more than 70 articles and has received several awards for his research. He also serves or has served on the editorial boards of leading marketing journals, such as Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, and Marketing Science. He has led seminars on various marketing topics for senior executives in Asia, Europe, and North and South America.

    Vittorio Grilli

    Vittorio Grilli has been the Chairman of the Corporate & Investment Bank, EMEA at J.P. Morgan since 2014. Within J.P Morgan, he is a Senior Advisor on macroeconomic issues, global market developments and European policy actions. Vittorio was also an Assistant Professor at Yale University and a Woolwich Professor of Financial Economics at University of London’s Birkbeck College. 
    He has held multiple positions at the Italian Treasury over the past two decades, most recently as Italian Minister of Economy and Finances. He has been a distinguished leader in global markets, serving on the EU’s Economic and Financial Committee from March 2009 to January 2012, ultimately as Chairman of the committee.
    Vittorio holds a Masters degree in economics from Bocconi University and a doctorate in economics from the University of Rochester.

    Andrea Illy is the Chairman of illycaffè S.p.A., a 100% family-owned company founded in 1933 with the mission of offering the greatest coffee to the world. 
    For 22 years, until 2016, he served as the company’s CEO. Under Andrea’s leadership, illycaffè has recorded doubledigit growth, and has become the best-known coffee brand and quality leader globally. Illycaffè has been recognized as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies. The company also won the Italian Best Performance Award in 2017. Andrea’s work is often published and he serves as a speaker at major conferences throughout the world. In 1995, he published Espresso Coffee: The Chemistry of Quality, and A Coffee Dream in 2015. 
    He is a passionate supporter of the stakeholder company business model, and firmly advocates for corporate responsibility as a mean to improve society. A “humanist chemist”, Andrea also promotes culture and art, a sphere in which illycaffè has always been active.Andrea is also Chairman of the Altagamma Foundation, and sits on the Board of Bank of Italy and Assolombarda Advisory Board.

    Jon Iwata is an Executive-in-Residence at the Yale School of Management. He is a trustee of Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, and a director of the Ladies Professional Golf Association.
    Jon joined IBM in 1984 at the company’s Almaden Research Center in Silicon Valley. He was appointed Senior Vice President, communications, in 2002, and Senior Vice President, marketing and communications, in 2008. He assumed his role as Chief Brand Officer in 2017. As IBM Chief Brand Officer, Jon was responsible for stewardship of the IBM brand and for positioning IBM as a global agenda-setter, shaping the company’s dialogue with the world. Jon is recognised as a leader in both the marketing and corporate communications professions. 
    He is an inductee of the Marketing Hall of Fame, the CMO Club Hall of Fame and the Page Society Hall of Fame, which honors lifetime achievement in public relations and business communications. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from The Seminar, an organization of Chief Communications Officers and was named a Brand Genius by AdWeek in 2017. He holds a B.A. from the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at San Jose State University.

    Andrew Keen

    Andrew is Executive Director of the Silicon Valley innovation salon FutureCast and an acclaimed public speaker around the world. FutureCast is an innovative business consultancy agency in Silicon Valley that predicts social and business trends. 
    Andrew is the author of several books, including Cult of the Amateur, Digital Vertigo, interntational hit: The Internet is Not the Answer and his latest book: How to Fix the Future. Andrew’s educational background is in history and politics, and has taught these subjects at Tufts and Northeastern universities.
    He speaks internationally on the implications of technology, business, culture, and education on society, notably discussing the digital revolution. He has spoken at events for The Economist, Google and TEDx.

    He is the host of “Keen On” show, a popular TechCrunch chat show, and was named one of the “100 MostConnected Men” in 2015 by GQ magazine.

    Jennie Liu

    Jennie is a Lecturer in the Practice of Management at the Yale School of Management and the Executive Director at the Yale Center for Customer Insights. She partners with marketing faculty fellows at the Center to bring theory into practice via a portfolio of marketing and insights projects with leading corporations. Her work has included projects in a wide variety of industries, including CPG, tech, snacks & beverages, healthcare and financial services. 
    Jennie is interested in the role of emotions in marketing and how the traditional ways that companies communicate to consumers can be re-invented to reflect how consumers actually make decisions. Prior to her role at Yale, Jennie worked in luxury beauty at The Estée Lauder Companies, where she was responsible for driving sales and market share growth of the Clinique brand in North America, leading account strategy for the brand across numerous retailers including Nordstrom, Saks 5th Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Ulta and Sephora. Jennie received her MBA from the Yale School of Management and her BA from Vanderbilt University.

    Anil Menon
    President of Cisco Smart+Connected Communities

    As Global President of Cisco’s Smart+Connected Communities (S+CC) business, Anil drives the vision, strategy, and sales for digitization of public sector services within cities. He has developed critical engagements and partnerships with mayors, governors, chief ministers, country leaders and global industrial companies. 
    Anil has been a key leader of Cisco’s Internet of Things (IoT) business, sponsored many of Cisco’s investments in IoT start-ups and shepherded the S+CC business from a startup within Cisco to the billion-dollar business it is today. Cisco is now ranked among the top IoT and Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technology leaders in digital transformation in cities and in industry. Prior to joining Cisco, Anil held several global roles at IBM ranging from Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer for IBM’s $34B global hardware business to managing IBM’s transition from a hardware brand to a business technology brand. Prior to this, he was a Business Professor at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and a Senior Advisor and Business Consultant to global blue chip companies. Anil holds PhDs in marketing strategy and in multivariate statistics and linear equation modeling. 
    Anil is active with the World Economic Forum and is also a member of the Board of Directors for The Center for Customer Insights at Yale University’s School of Management. He holds a position on the advisory board of Johns Hopkins University’s Carey Business School and serves as an investor and advisor to several start-ups in the IOT space.

    Nicholas Negroponte

    Nicholas Negroponte

    Nicholas Negroponte is the co-founder with Jerome B. Wiesner of the MIT Media Lab, which he directed for its first 20 years. A graduate of MIT, Negroponte was a pioneer in the field of computer-aided design and has been a member of the MIT faculty since 1966. 
    He gave the first TED talk in 1984, as well as 13 since then. He is author of the 1995 best seller, Being Digital, which has been translated into more than 40 languages.
    In 2005, he founded the non-profit One Laptop per Child, which deployed $1 billion worth of laptops for primary education in the developing world. In the private sector, Negroponte served on the board of directors of Motorola for 15 years and was general partner in a venture capital firm specializing in digital technologies for information and entertainment. He has personally provided start-up funds for more than 40 companies, including Zagats and WIRED magazine.

    In 1994 she founded the Family Office of the Zambon family, which in 2000 was transformed into a Multi Family Office, creating Secofind.Elena is President of Zambon SpA, pharmaceutical multinational company, and she holds several Board member positions in other affiliates of the Group.
    She is also President of Fondazione Zoé — Zambon Open Education. Elena is member of the Board of Directors of UniCredit, Ferrari S.p.A and IIT — Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia; former member of the Board of Directors of Italcementi SpA, Fondo Strategico Italiano, Akros Finanziaria S.p.A. and Salvagnini SpA.
    She is President of AIdAF, the Italian Family Business Association, and Board Member of FBN — Family Business Network.
    She is also Vice President and member of the Executive Committee of Aspen Institute Italia, member of the Bocconi University Campaign Board and member of the Advisory Board of Politecnico di Milano School of Management.
    Elena Zambon has been knighted by the President of Italy.

    The Schools of Management of Politecnico di Milano and Yale Center for Customer Insights have conducted a student contest and the finalists took part in a Hackathon, with the objective of enriching the Conference’s discussion.

    The project “Being” is proposing a service that conserves and regenerates cultural heritage, by using Artificial Intelligence to sort existing data through the lens of culture.

    Creating location-based profiles, the service supports businesses while empowering governments to track trends and redirect resources.
