    Prada Mode Paris

    On January 19th and January 20th, on the occasion of Paris Haute Couture, Prada Mode Paris occupied Maxim’s, the legendary 1893 Belle Époque restaurant. For Prada Mode Paris, the iconic location has been transformed by AI researcher and professor Kate Crawford and artist and researcher Trevor Paglen into an installation titled “Making Faces” which includes art projects and architectural modifications focusing on data gathering, surveillance and facial recognition. The days were animated by debates, site-specific artworks, parties, featuring exhilarating performances and live music. The chef Bertrand Grébaut of the renowned starred restaurant Septime curated the food experience for the entire two-day event. 

    Day 1

    • The History of the Face – Talk by Simone Browne, Stephanie Dick, Xiaochang Li and Sarah Myers West
    • Artists on Fascism and Faces – Talk by Kate Crawford, Heather Dewey-Hagborg, Trevor Paglen and Hito Steyerl
    • At the presence of Miuccia Prada and Emmanuelle Alt, Prada and Vogue Paris co-hosted a dinner curated by chef Cyril Lignac.
    • A party with live performances by William Basinski and DJ sets by Jonny Seymour, Kim Ann Foxman, Barker, Bo Daley, Datassette

    Day 2

    • Making Faces – Kate Crawford and Trevor Paglen in conversation with students from Parisian schools such as “École des Beaux-Arts de Paris” and “ENS (École Normale Supérieure)”
    • The Politics and Policies of Biometrics – Talk by Meredith Broussard, Lorena Jaume-Palasi, Michael Veale, Amba Kak
    • A party with live performances by Serpentwithfeet and DJ sets by Jonny Seymour, Bo Daley, Datassette, Kim Ann Foxman, Kiddy Smile and Naomi Nitel.
