Ghana, 5th December 2022 - On the 1st of December 2022, UNFPA and Prada Group celebrated 15 outstanding young women as they graduated from the "Fashion Expressions: The Stories She Wears" programme in Ghana. The partnership combines the leadership of Prada Group in the fashion industry with the expertise of UNFPA in gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and Gender-based Violence (GBV) in Ghana. In May, these young women and girls from marginalized and left-behind communities were selected to undergo the six-month training curriculum and all of them successfully completed their exams.
The event showcased the creative work of the graduates through a mini-fashion show, and the UNFPA Ghana Country Director gave a keynote address. The ceremony also commemorated World AIDS Day by conducting free health screening and providing a presentation about the continued impact that HIV/AIDS has on communities.
The 15 trainees will begin their industrial attachment with established local brands next year to ensure long-term employment opportunities in the fashion sector.
